Roskilde Festival - The Cuatro Bong.

Person who proudly shows of the Cuatro Bong.

We stumble into a camp. A friend of mine wants to show me the latest invention of the Camp in which he resides - “The Cuatro Bong” this is unlike any beer bong we’ve ever seen before. A bucket with 4 attached hoses. As soon as my friend has pulled it out from his tent it is exclaimed from the camp “Cuatro Bong!” “Cuatro Bong!” Let’s sacrifice a couple of beers each, someone says. And so they do. They stand up on a pedestal and invite people to join in on one of the hoses.

I never myself get to try the Cuatro Bong as we soon after the first round of Cuatro Bong’in leave the camp onwards through the campsites. However, one thing is certain people are still living very fast at Roskilde Festival; often with the help of a Cuatro/Mono Bong.

Roskilde Festival - The People

People stacked under someones tarpaulin due to heavy rain during a concert.

Once again I’m amazed by the way the human interaction is played out at Roskilde Festival. This is like no other place I’ve ever been. Everybody is helping one another, smiling, talking, partying. The second you step into the campsite it feels like being in a whole other country - or world.

Why it is that people are like this is hard to understand - some would argue that it is because of intoxication, some would say that it’s because they are happy because they’ve anticipated the festival all year. I however believe it just is the contagious Orange Feeling that spreads like an epidemic every year at Roskilde Festival.

A couple of days in: Once again we’ve been infected by the Orange feeling and we are enjoying every breath we take at Roskilde Festival. We are certain by this point that the festival once again won’t disappoint us. I’m anxious to get acquainted with the people that surround me and hopefully to get to take their portraits and hear their stories.

The Twins: During a walk through one of the campsites a pair of twins are spotted. I need to take a picture of them. I chase them down and persuade them into letting me take a photograph of them. They aren’t Danish - I bet with myself within the first few seconds that they are Icelandic. I take their picture and they quickly walk away - Leaving me in the unknown about them and their story.

I hope to run into them again, but i don’t.

Roskilde Festival - The Arrival

A contestant in the annual drinking competition known as Sports day.

We leave for the festival saturday afternoon. We are packed with all the necessary equipment we will need for the next 8 days of “madness”.

We step out of the car at the east entrance, and come to the realization that we once again decided to embark on the adventure that Roskilde Festival is.

We are by no means first timers, It’s my fifth time at the festival and my friends fourth. We quickly get our campsite set up and open the first beer. I have my camera over my shoulder as i will for the next 8 days trying to document the biggest party of my generation - Roskilde Festival.

The entire project is being edited and is expected done in a couple of days. Keep track of the following diary episodes of the Roskilde Festival project by following the blog and/or visiting my site Jacobthomson.net
